Music that sounds great at moderate volume can turn harsh or fatiguing when played loud — human hearing becomes more sensitive to high-mids and highs as volume increases.
If a track becomes piercing at high volume, a small cut in the high-mid or high band often restores comfort without needing to turn the volume down. Keep the Limiter on to catch any peaks that would otherwise distort at higher playback levels.
Human hearing isn't equally sensitive to every frequency at every volume — bass and treble both feel relatively weaker at low volumes and stronger at high ones. A curve that sounds balanced quietly can feel bass-and-treble-heavy once turned up.
